Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?

Athens associate dentist Doctor Kamarin Moon

Dr. Moon is not shy about saying that she has always loved teeth. When she went on a mission trip in high school, she saw the condition of the children’s teeth and instinctually wanted to help them. It also motivated her to do the same for people in her community. Today, she loves being able to give someone their smile back as well as restore the function and strength of their teeth.

Where Did You Study Dentistry?

Dr. Moon’s dental career started at Gordon State College where she earned an Associates in Pre-Dental Hygiene. This was followed by obtaining her bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene at Augusta University. She then worked as a hygienist for three years before beginning dental school at the Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University. As a student, she participated in dental mission trips to both Haiti and Romania to serve underprivileged communities.

Right after graduation, she completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency at the Charlie Norwood Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center. There, she gained valuable experience placing dental implants, trained in improved extraction techniques, and learned how to perform various surgeries (including sinus lifts, bone grafts, tissue grafts, and crown lengthening). She has also taken continuing education courses focused on sleep apnea oral appliances, SureSmile clear aligners, and full arch dental implant restorations.

To stay on top of the latest advancements in her field, Dr. Moon is an active member of both the American Dental Association and Georgia Dental Association.
