Scaling & Root Planing

The standard ways to address gum disease are scaling and root planing. These two methods represent a single treatment that takes two dental visits. For the scaling, we remove plaque and tartar from your teeth and gumline. (Our dental team may use a soft tissue laser on your gums to do so.) Meanwhile, root planing smooths out your tooth roots. This step allows your gums to heal quickly so they reattach to your teeth and protect your grin.

Antibiotic Treatment

Along with scaling and root planing, we may suggest an antibiotic treatment based on your needs. This service applies an antibiotic (in powdered form) to the site of your infection. Once that’s done, the medicine will combat the bacteria causing your gum disease. You should then see a major reduction in your gum pockets over 14 days or so.
